Coyote vs. Acme tied a rocket to its back and blasted up into third place at the worldwide box office in its second weekend in theaters, leading a strong frame for animated titles that included a Cars anniversary release, a solid hold for Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie, and an impressive North American 4K re-release run for Akira.

This spin on the classic Looney Tunes shorts is an absolute treat for animation lovers, receiving critical praise and high box-office sales since release.

The long-awaited Looney Toons feature “Coyote vs. Acme” released in theatres nationwide on Aug. 28, after being filmed for HBO Max in 2022 then later shelved by its distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures, as a tax write-off in November 2023.

Like most of you, I grew up watching cartoons. For me, the best — and purest — series was always the Road Runner. Its true hero is not, of course, that smug, beep-beeping bird. It's his perpetually thwarted pursuer Wile E. Coyote, who, alone in the most stripped-down of deserts, endures the endless futility of a Beckett character. (In fact, the character was created at the same time as Waiting for Godot.)

Paramount’s “Scream 7” survived a spring boycott, while Ketchup Entertainment’s “Coyote vs. Acme” benefited from a buycott in a marketplace increasingly defined by voting with your wallet.

Ketchup Entertainment, hot off giving Warner Bros Animation’s Coyote Vs. Acme a theatrical release, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Norwegian animated movie ViQueens from director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, The 12th Man, Agent Cody Banks).

Coyote vs. Acme has proven that Warner Bros' decision to shelve it was wrong, as it continues to make its mark at the box office. Despite a long weekend, the movie held up well, with only a small drop as it continued to compete with major contenders like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
